key tracking from other track as modulation source

Hi, what about adding key tracking from another synth track as an additional modulation source?
By muting the "modulating" track we'd have a very powerful free-form LFO modulator (with time length, horizontal zooming and so on).
For smooth modulation this could work like that: if there are pauses between a note and the following, the modulator transitions linearly between the notes, otherwise it jumps.
Thoughts?
