Choke group polyphony (Hi-hats)

Is it possible to have single voice polyphony while a sample is in a choke group?
When I set my hi-hats into a choke group, I don't like how a lower velocity un-naturally cuts off a previously played open or closed hi-hat when using a midi pad controller for example.
