Auto-start clip when recording midi

Is there a way to have the clip you are in start when you hit record (for midi record) if it is not playing already, or to start it in some other was without getting out of it?

Getting out sometimes ends a search for which clip that was, especially I am in the state for improvising. Almost as if all the technical steps should then be kept minimum, especially on such occasions.

Ideally, pressing record in this context would automatically get the clip started because you can't do anything otherwise anyway - the red light shines but nothing will change until the clip playback gets started.

AFAIMA, the steps for the whole process are:
1. delete contents of the clip (L/R knob + Back/undo
2. make sure there is enough space shift + L/R several times
3. start recording improvisation: get out of clip, identify clip among the others, start clip, dive back, hit record

This whole point 3 could be replaced with "auto-start clip when recording midi" functionality, and a hidden gem would be that pressing record twice would effectively, trigger clip playback only without getting out - or is there a workaound?
