How does the unmute work while in play mode?

I can’t predict when a certain track will unmute during playback. I have different tracks at different bar lengths, and when unmuting a track i don’t know when it’s going to actually play, can I choose a track to tie it to, so i know that the two will be connected?(each track will play at 1 at the same time while other tracks with a longer length are still playing.)
I’m not sure if I’m explaining this accurately.
