Scratching

Maybe this is easy, but I just can't wrap my head around this. I want to do scratching like in this video.

I sort of have an envelope mapped to the Pitch of the sample and then adjust the level of the envelope. But it doesn't feel right.

Any ideas on doing this scratching type thing like the good old zack did in the video?

Have you set pitch and speed to linked? Maybe that is what's "off". Otherwise could you post what you've got so far?
