how do I access this setting?
"alpha firmware has record mode as a toggle (i.e. doesn't start playing when you hit record, it just arms the Deluge for recording"

The manual will be updated for the new 1.2 VERY soon, but I think what you're looking for is Shift+Record? I can't tell exactly what you're asking for, but yes, check the manual soon.
