MPK Mini MK3 - Not working for me?

I am using an external power supply - center neg, 9-12V - and this is working well. I have a USB A-B adapter. When I plug in my brand new MPK Mini MK3, it seems to be powered properly when the Deluge is powered on. However, I don't see the display flash 'midi' and attempting to use the 'Learn' button does not work. I'm curious if others are having this experience?
