Midi stutter possible?

I searched and didn't find any reference to this so hope I'm not repeating something already requested.
I do SO love the stutter effect and wonder if it is possible to adapt it to use it in midi tracks as well. Would midi limitations and sync be too jumbled up if this was tried? I may lead to some wonderful accidents on outboard synths and drum machines connected to it....
