Adding steps while tweaking

Hi folks

Before I add this as a software suggestion, is there a way of being able to add steps to a track in a kit without that lane becoming the active one for tweaking?

As an example: when playing live, I'm tweaking the pitch of a snare sample, but I'd like to make a change to the hi-hat sequence at the same time. As soon as I add some steps to the hi-hat pattern - whoops! I'm now tweaking the pitch of the hi-hat.

Equally, when selecting a different lane/sample it will automatically play that sample. I know I can hit shift while selecting the track, but is there a setting somewhere to avoid that?

I think the answer is no to both questions. I think I'd prefer it if only the audition pad changed the row selection, not adding or removing notes.
