Is there a way to jump from track to track without first going into song mode?

no, would be a nice suggestion imho.
i thought about that for a “ghost note” feature: blend in readonly notes from other tracks as for example cubase can do it. but overall i think it would be a cool workflow addition in general.
hold song button + press any of the grid pads to select a track #.
row1: track 1-16
row2: track 16-32
etc...
It would help if the grid pads were illuminated in track colors while holding the song button.

Haha was just an idea. But its actually the same thing as pressing&releasing song + track just feels more convenient
