Alphanumeric kbd

When you hold the shift button down for a period of time (maybe 3 seconds) the top 3 rows of the note entry pad could become an alphanumeric keypad and the bottom 5 could scroll text (conditionally based)
i.e. sample name, track name, preset name, song name, etc.
It's easier to find a song or track by name rather than by it's number (001A-Z through 999a-z)
So- the LED readout could display the number and the note entry pad could display the name.

OK! Last edit! (for now)
possible note-entry pad alphanumerics
This would be a cool way to display params and settings , great idea, unsure about the keyboard part, might be awkward ?
How about using the two knobs to change letters and the other knob to change position?
that could work, but it would take time away from composing!
the color of the alphanumerics could chenge based on the track, perhaps.
I haven't opened it up yet, but I foresee having difficulty identifying what song I'm on without hitting "play" once I build up a library unless I keep an auxilliary notepad close at hand.
great idea man!
I think when you hit "save" (for synth/kit/song) the keyboard could pop up and you could hit "back" if you wanted to use the standard numbering convention.
"LOAD" button could call-up keyboard so you can search by name. You want the song called "Sexy Robot" so you type "s", the song "Sappy Love Song" shows up because it's alphabetically first-- then you type "e" and "Serious Love Song" shows up-- then "x"-- and so on in that fashion.
Beats scrolling though dozens of numbers.
bumping this for the newcomers to vote on.
if you don't vote for it, I can't have it.
AREN'T I WORTH IT?????

one can fit 2 rows of text with this condensed alphabet.

upvote. condensed looks good, 8 characters on 1 screen is nice. might be better to use the same alphabet code as in the LED readout for consistency though.
also would do great in combination with preset banks imho. having a description for songs and presets would help a lot, still the flat file hierarchy demands a lot of knob fiddling when there are hundreds of xml files. with an on-board qwerty keyboard banks could be named on the deluge as well.

Had a dream last night the deluge matrix had colored words scroll across the track rows 😜

this is what I was thinking!
Something like this would be good. Anything to get me TITLES for songs!
I think I might prefer Taller letters, a knob is okay for naming things once you get used to it

I just thought I'd give this a little bump for the new and potential users.
while you're scrolling through songs, if you tap "shift" before loading, it could display song status-- things like BPM, or bars, or # tracks, etc. One stat per "shift". "Back" would bring you back to name' One more "Back" you would exit load mode, dumping you back into already loaded song.
When you've loaded a song, holding the audtion pad could call up track status. How many bars, synth type, etc.
Great idea. It would really improve workflow, without affecting anything of what we already have! Taller characters seem better. I don't know about scrolling, although it would feel like entering a hi score in an arcade machine. That could be fun, lol
would be so good for browsing samples. a 3x3 or a 3x4 pixel font gives 8 ascii characters.
made an example with the words “Cringe Bass”:
3x4 looks still very readable for me.
