Wow, thats a lot of progress. Can't wait to test this all out. Thansk to all the devs!!
And to everyone else: join the patreon
I'm not touching anything! I'll wait for my screen update.
The July Update Roundup is live, check it out to hear about new features developed for the Community Firmware and hear about the news of the first Community Firmware beta, beginning Monday, August 21st ! Link is in original post of this thread.
So much great stuff happening! Thanks @reza for all the updates
excited about this one, so many great updates. Also checked Alter page, and damn, new cool stuff on the way. Cheers guys you are doing some amazing work
I wonder if open source developers will be able to let the deluge export individual stems to the sd card so we can mix tracks separately in DAW. That's really the only feature I am still missing.
Will we be getting another round up soon?
Hey @Ljk !
Yes, another one Round Up should pop up once the Community Firmware has advanced to beta. Currently the pre-beta testing has taken more time than initially expected in order to sort out performance issues (which are mostly resolved with some cases still needing attention). It was felt that if another update was provided advertising the current pre-beta that there would be a larger influx of reports of performance issues that are currently known/being sorted out and it'd be best to wait once the beta is ready for another update.
Since most of the development has shifted to fixing bugs/performances, there hasn't been as much development on new features this round, so there's also less to report besides improving what features that have already been mentioned for the first release of the Community Firmware. Although I was expecting to make monthly updates, moving forward update round ups will probably shift to every 1-2 months. Cheers!
Has the beta dropped? Or is this still pre-beta?
I see the link on the site — https://synthstromaudible.github.io/DelugeFirmware/
Yes, that is the beta, an announcement is being made in the next day or two that will clarify everything. The beta will be getting updated throughout the beta process.
It is unbelievable what has been done since the Deluge went open source. I really have big respect for what some genious people are doing with their skills in coding, Especially when they always respect consistency in the workflow or to the good old /seg Display.
I am far from understanding everything that happens on Github, don´t even know the differences between forks and branches. I always follow the things happening on Discord but yesterday, when I was there in the feature chat, I reached a point where I was asking myself: Which direction goes all this??
There is a lack of documentation how to handle all the releases, it is not even clear which nightly is based on which beta, so for me it seems that there are a few people where everybody is developing his own firmware with aspects that go very far out to work with very very special external gear.
There is work done on nearly everything: USB, Audioengine,Bootloader,Synthengine....and I miss some explaining videos or only documentation text, the changelog on Github does not go deep enough in how to practise things (e.g. Macros)
A new reference in documentation would help a lot and prevent that the same questions pop up on discord repeadetly.
(This is all personal oppinon and I will work hard on understanding what these genious people implement.
Deluge is a fascinating hardware and its versatility is a blessing, when there is too much DAW implementation I fear its getting inoperable and not a music instrument anymore)
The change log is a change log. It’s not meant to explain everything. It’s a high level summary.
As mentioned at the top of the changelog, more detailed documentation is found in the community features document as well as in the feature documentation folder on GitHub.
https://github.com/SynthstromAudible/DelugeFirmware/blob/community/docs/community_features.md
https://github.com/SynthstromAudible/DelugeFirmware/tree/community/docs/features
Efforts are underway to build a website with better documentation and explanations.
Everything we’re adding to the community firmware is in the spirit of the Deluge, to address gaps and make it better, it’s absolutely not to make the Deluge more complicated to use, rather the complete opposite.
I’m sorry that you feel the way you do, but If you have specific feedback, Please share it. We can’t respond to vague generalizations and assertions.
