Notes not recording in clip mode

Hi all,
I have seen a strange behavior feil the beloved D. recently:
Unable to record notes in synth mode on a clip, either playing first then pressing record, or record first then play (countdown). Any note i press at any time will be recorded only in the first column of the grid, tje rest remaining blank.
Any suggestions?

are you in latest firmware?
any chance you have midi plugged in? does the same behavior occur if no midi is plugged in?
I'm on 4.0.0 but will update and keep you posted.
No midi ever plugged in.
