How do I duplicate a white clip in Arranger Mode?

Let's say I have recorded a new clip in Arranger mode. I now want to add a duplicate of this clip in the arranger, perhaps exactly, or perhaps with modifications. Is there any way to create a new white clip based on the first? This would seem to be a very common need when composing, for example, repeating a motif with variations.

The only way I can think of doing it is pretty roundabout: I have to first copy the white clip to song mode, creating a non-white clip, then go back to the arranger and place a new copy of the new song mode clip, then change it to white. Is there's a less convoluted way to do it?

The process you described is indeed the only way to copy a white clip to another place in the arranger. White clips, by definition, are unique clip instances. So they must be moved to song view in order to be given a color and be copied across the arranger.
Only need to turn them white again if making unique variations.
