I think part of the problem identified by Reza is that kits don’t have notes assigned to them like a traditional midi-capable drum machine usually does. Each sound can be triggered by any note you assign to it or none at all. That said, I don’t see any reason why the pads in a kit “keyboard mode” couldn’t just reflect the kit sounds as they appear in order of row from bottom to top. Wouldn’t effect midi mapping at all that way.
