MONTHLY DELUGE CHALLENGES

Hey fam, we've started to do monthly deluge challenges over at the very active and nice deluge discord!
(get in via the link posted here https://forums.synthstrom.com/discussion/comment/17424)
Come on in and join us!

To fill you in what happened so far:
These are the basics of the challenges and count for every month, except when the host states otherwise.

  1. The only gear allowed is the synthstrom deluge. Exceptions: headphones and midi controllers.
  2. No samples can be used that weren't recorded with the deluge's internal mic. This also counts for samples used in synth presets. Exceptions: Stock presets / kits (the stuff that is on the sd card as synthstrom gives it out) or samples / presets that the host provides.
  3. The results must be uploaded to the challenge channel on discord before the deadline.
  4. Everyone who took part of the challenge gets a chance to be randomly chosen as the next host.
  5. The host sets the rules. If you think the rules are stupid, shake your head in disbelief and stay calm and friendly. Maybe wait for next month. Or do the opposite and go all in for a chance to be the next host and make others obey your rules.
  6. It is preferred that the host presents two sets of rules and the community votes which one they want.
  7. Listen to others tracks and find something nice / constructive to write about them. Do your part to make this a community experience.
  8. The penalty for breaking any of the rules is a deep sigh from the community and having less fun than the others.
  9. Have fun. If you don't, you lose.

THESE ARE THE RULES FOR THE FIRST CHALLENGE #2203 (March 2022) "Hitchhiking"
There is only one sample that can be used. You have to build EVERYTHING from that. No other samples, no synth presets, don't use the microphone, don't use the sine/square/saw etc. from the deluge, create single cycle waveforms to use instead (but you can use longer samples too, of course).
The sample in question is this entire movie: "The Hitch-Hiker (1953)" https://loc.gov/item/mbrs00047382/
(It's public domain and free to use and reuse)

Maybe I'll keep posting the rules to the future challenges in this thread, but I can't promise anything.

Good luck and have fun!

Hey all ! As Heptagen posted, this thing is still going on in the Deluge Discord (invite link: https://discord.gg/t9fcjuuDkx )

Submission close at the end of the month and I think we may do a twitch stream to live react to each song. If you want to grab the .wav file of the whole movie's audio there is this comment to grab it from: https://discord.com/channels/608916579421257728/944023195919454210/945887823544873022

Started on one already and actually managed to do all my chopping on the hour+ file all on the Deluge haha, not required to only use the Deluge for chopping but fun to try out!

I love this idea. I downloaded the sample and loaded it into the Deluge to slice, etc. but got distracted. Fingers crossed.

We just concluded the first Deluge Discord Monthly Challenge this past weekend. Everyone's submissions were super cool and wildly different from each other, you can find them in the #march-submissions channel in the Discord.

I was randomly selected to set the two possible options for APRIL'S challenge. Check out and vote for which one you want here: https://discord.com/channels/608916579421257728/944023171378610256/960733978686545941 (voting closes in 3 days) Make a song with the chosen ruleset by the end of the month of April!

Invite link to the Discord can be found here: https://discord.gg/t9fcjuuDkx
