Details on using Audio / Inputs as Waveforms

I can see in the TYPE menu, as well as in a brief explanation on page 86 of the manual that Audio / Inputs can be used as Waveforms. What does this mean in practise? Could I, say, input a static Saw wave at audio rate from my Mother 32 from the Line In, and have Deluge use it as a Waveform that is then mapped (digitally I guess) across the available note range? How would Deluge react if the Line In audio were to change pitch or timbre?

In terms of pitch, it works similarly to the sample engine. C3 is the unaltered pitch of the incoming signal. D3 for example, would transpose the sound two semitones higher. In most use cases it’s good to have either the source audio or the sequenced note on the Deluge stay static.
I like to use line in with my bass or guitar. And I’ll sequence a long C3 (and/or an octave above or below). This allowed me to use effects and LFOs to modulate my sound.
