Odd Length or Odd Position Notes crossing bar boundaries

I want to create an eighth note which starts (say) in the last sixteenth of one bar and ends at the second sixteenth of the next bar. How is this done? It appears to be, amazingly, impossible to make odd-length or odd-position notes which straddle bar boundaries. I hold down the note, but when I scroll to the next bar, that hold-down is forgotten. I can't zoom out and make the note because the note started on an odd position (15) and also because the note is 3 sixteenths long. This seems like an incredible omission.

After placing the beginning of the note, let go and scroll to the next bar then hold the horizontal knob and press the pad you want the note to extend to. This should do the trick
