problem was from usb - (the usb is battery powered via a hub) I fixed it with a usb isolator from ebay. * wish the deluge had a build in isolator, or a switch to turn off usb charging.

I soooo want'd to add this crazy sugestion but was too embarrassed. lol. Yep - would totally open up the Deluge to a new crowd, to get those op-1 tape start/stop/speed effects with samples.
