Recording midi tracks problem

Hello,
I'm trying to record midi tracks from another sequencer.
So, i create my 6 midi tracks, each set to the midi channel corresponding to the ones sent (which is done +- automatically by the deluge), then hit record on the deluge and play on the other sequencer. Everything looks about right... except nothing seems to be transmitted to the deluge or is recorded.
Reading the manual and other posts here, i did it another way: instead of midi tracks, i created synth tracks, assigned them with the learn function, and voilà, it worked... but i have to go back to each track and change them back to midi, etc..
So, my question: Why doesn't midi recording work with midi tracks? I like my sequencers to be as obvious as possible, and it is not 
Or did i do something wrong?

The MIDI channel of a MIDI track is the channel it will output. To record incoming MIDI onto a MIDI track, you have to do the same LEARN procedure as on a synth track.
