Recording drums while playing?

I haven't pulled the trigger on getting the Deluge yet, I'm still doing research. I'm just want to make sure if it's possible to record drums using the audition pads while a sequence is playing/looping, rather than having to just select where the drums happen in the grid view? Kind of like how you can do that with a Volca Sample, or PO-12. I just haven't seen any examples of it on YouTube.
The manual says under "Recording notes": Pressing the "record" button makes recording active whenever the Deluge is play. Now, every time you press a row's audition pad, a note will also be recorded into the current sequence.
Do kits count as notes?

Yeah, you can definitely live record drums using the audition pad (or an external controller).
