External Synths and Sustain Over Midi Question

Does anyone use a sustain pedal with an external synth with the deluge? I have a poly synth hooked up and whenever I record sustain cc#64, I have problems. I think it stems from the fact that the deluge waits a second or so after you move a midi parameter before it switches to the recorded automation. Since the last time I move the sustain pedal is before the end of the loop, the deluge continues to record this info into the beginning of the loop, writting over the previous sustain automation for a short time.

Anyone found a work around? The manual says the deluge should just play back automation once it reaches the end of a loop (no longer record that automation into the beginning of the loop), but it seems like that is not the case?
